What is polki jewellery?
Polki is jewellery set with uncut, natural diamonds in their original rough form, rather than faceted, machine-cut stones. The diamonds keep their flat, irregular surfaces and a soft, candle-like glow, set into gold by hand. It is one of the oldest forms of Indian fine jewellery and the heart of what Palishhka makes.
What is the difference between polki and kundan jewellery?
Polki refers to the uncut diamonds themselves. Kundan refers to the technique of setting stones with thin layers of pure, refined gold that hold each stone in place. Most heritage Indian pieces, including those of Palishhka, combine the two: uncut polki diamonds set in the kundan, or jadau, style.
What is jadau, and how is it made?
Jadau is the traditional Indian craft of embedding uncut diamonds and gemstones into gold by hand, layer by layer, with no casting or moulds. The reverse is often finished with meenakari enamel. A single jadau piece passes through several pairs of hands, which is why each one takes time and is never quite repeatable.
Is polki jewellery suitable for weddings and bridal wear?
Yes. Polki and jadau sets have been worn at Indian weddings for generations, and they remain a classic choice for brides and trousseaux. Necklace sets, chokers and chandelier earrings in polki suit bridal and festive occasions, and sit well with both traditional and contemporary outfits.
Are polki diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. Polki diamonds are real, natural diamonds that are left uncut or only lightly shaped, rather than brilliant-cut. Because they are minimally worked, they keep more of the original stone. Palishhka confirms the materials and stones of every piece at the time of enquiry.
How do I care for polki and kundan jewellery?
Keep polki and kundan pieces away from water, perfume and chemicals, wipe them gently with a soft dry cloth, and store each piece separately in a soft pouch or box. Put jewellery on last when dressing. You can read fuller guidance on our jewellery care page.

Are Palishhka pieces really one of a kind?
Yes. Every Palishhka design is drawn, set and enamelled once, and never repeated, so no two clients own the same piece. It has been the founding idea of the house since 1995.
How do I find out the price of a piece?
Most pieces are priced on request, because each is one of a kind and priced by its stones, gold weight and work. Open any piece and use the Enquire on WhatsApp button, or write to us, and we will confirm the price and details.
